The University of Virginia kept its perfect season intact with a 4-0 victory over the 16th seeded University of Michigan Wolverines on a warm, calm and partly cloudy afternoon at the Michael Case Tennis Center. The Cavaliers had dropped the doubles point when they had played Michigan in Ann Arbor in February, but they were all business Friday, earning wins at No. 3 and No. 2 in doubles. Virginia got their second point in a hurry from Michael Shabaz at No. 5 and their third from the oft-injured Dom Inglot at No. 3. Senior Treat Huey provided the clinching win at No. 2 with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over freshman Jason Jung.
Baylor head coach Matt Knoll has seen plenty of doubles matches in his 11 years at Baylor, but he doesn't recall ever seeing the point decided in three tiebreakers. His ninth-seeded Bears were on the wrong end of two of them, but came out strong in singles taking points at No. 4, No. 1 and No. 2 against eighth seeded Tennessee. There was a lengthy interval before the 2004 NCAA champions could get their third point, but they earned a quarterfinal berth against the Cavaliers when Attila Bucko outlasted Matteo Fago at the No. 5 position 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Back in March, Virginia defeated Baylor 7-0 in Charlottesville.
