Wrapping up Miami

On the day that Michelle Larcher de Brito defeated Meghann Shaughnessy at the Sony Ericsson, I had one of my biggest traffic days ever at zootennis. My story about Larcher de Brito's February pro debut in Midland is one of the top hits when she's googled; I hope it provided those who didn't know anything about her a frame of reference at least.

Bonnie DeSimone of ESPN.com wrote feature about Larcher de Brito a few days after her loss to Daniela Hantuchova, and Tennis Week also did an interview with her. But as DeSimone points out in her story, the age restrictions imposed by the WTA mean that she'll be back in the juniors for most of the year.

Mark Bey, the junior development coach from suburban Chicago, has a part-time gig as a hitting partner with the Bryan twins, and when he was in Key Biscayne with them last week, he managed to arrange a meeting between Mike and Bob and two ten-year-old twins, who are tennis-playing students of area coach Bill Clark. The USTA Florida website has an entertaining story about the encounter.

And Tori Townsend, the new Communications Coordinator for USTA Florida, put together this story, with many photos, of the Greater Miami Tennis and Education Foundation dinner honoring Bobby Curtis.
