It's a very busy weekend in college tennis, and all those conference rivalries have produced some surprises. On the men's side, the University of Michigan upset Illinois 5-2 Friday night in Ann Arbor. The Michigan Daily featured a preview on Friday, describing the decline and fall of Michigan tennis and its current resurgence under Bruce Berque, who, of course, was an assistant under Craig Tiley at Illinois until 2004. The match account is here.
Other upsets included Clemson's men taking down Wake Forest, the North Carolina women defeating Miami, and the Arizona State women beating UCLA.
Another notable match, although not an upset, was Mississippi's six-hour, 4-3 victory over the Tennessee men.
