Monday Odds and Ends

Stories from Barcelona Spain to Barnstaple England to Rome Georgia and Elk Grove Village Illinois, from college graduates to teens and preteens, there is all sorts of tennis news today.

Kristi Miller, the 2008 Georgia Tech grad who has been blogging for ramblinwreck.com, has detailed coverage of her 7-6 in the the third loss in the finals of an ITF women's circuit $10,000 event outside of Barcelona. The player that she mentions beating in the semifinals is Katarzyna Piter of Poland, who is still competing in major junior events too.

Laura Robson will earn her WTA ranking after this week's $50,000 challenger in Barnstaple, where she received a wild card into the main draw. Three events are required before the WTA places a player in the rankings. Not only is Robson competing there, but British No. 1 Anna Keothavong, ranked No. 80, took a late wild card, giving the North Devon Journal good reason to entitle their story "Double boost for Barnstaple Open."

Colt Gaston and Ryan Rowe won the doubles title at the $10,000 Pro Circuit tournament in Laguna Niguel Calif. yesterday and that warrants a feature in the Rome News-Tribune, where former LSU Tiger Gaston is from. He has a goal of making the U.S. Open next year in doubles, and is teaming with 2004 Kalamazoo winner Scoville Jenkins in the next few events.

And 12-year-old Jordan Belga of Elk Grove Village Illinois is now the top ranked 12-and-under boy in the USTA rankings. The Daily Herald published this article to mark the occasion.
